Culture: Women warriors of the Amazon

Hello,
For this post "Culture", I would like to talk about a fascinating subject : the Amazons. It is a theme I would like to develop because I think we can learn so much from them, as women who fights for what they wants.As well, I find those women fascinating: Myths, Legends or true History, who were those warriors who cut off their right breast to make sure to win any fights?
In Charmed, an episode where the sisters impersonated
Valkyries that are a mythological representation of Amazons

"According to myth, the Amazons were an all-female society of fierce warriors who supposedly lived in the area north of the Black Sea about 700 years before the fifth century BC. Supposedly they cut off one breast to make shooting a bow and arrow easier. But this has never been proved even in the myths. The word Amazon itself has some connotation with breasts."(1)
The head of archaeologist of a site in Kazakhstan Jeannine Davis-Kimball, found unearthed burial sites which could support the existence of this myth. In fact, females buried with weapons and curved leg bones on one that attest a life spent on horseback, would demonstrate women's participation in activities traditionally dominated by men in Greece. As a direct evidence, one of the women apparently died from an arrow in her head that show a participation in battle.
Theories located them in Southern Russia, Ukraine, Thrace (Bulgaria) or along the lower Caucasus mountains in northern Albania.The coasts of Turkey (known before as Thermodon River in Asia Minor) seemed to be the most frequently mentioned territory of Amazons. "Stories of beautiful and bloodthirsty female warrior women thundering across arid battlefields have been told, re-told and speculated over for thousands of years by many cultures. Greek myths are filled with tales of the Amazons and their exploits, love affairs and battles."(1) A growing body of evidence show that Amazons were real, even if historian still refer to them as legend or myth.

In the Greek mythology they are the descendants of the god of war, Ares, and the sea nymph Harmonia. Described as stringently matriarchal, males were used for mating purposes or as slaves performing duties traditionally done by women. Their limbs were usually amputated to prevent from escaping or rebelling. As far as for male babies were either given away at birth to neighbouring tribes or killed. From an early age Amazons were trained in the arts of war. Apparently the right breast of the young Amazon girl was cauterized by her mother so that she would be deft with the various weapons of war.

Stories about Amazons Queens:
Nyabinghi, better known as "the hidden queen" defeated the English and rescued her people from a life of abject slavery.  Ya Asantewa, an Ashanti queen of Ghana typified the spirit of the woman of the Amazon when she said "If you the men of Ashanti will not go forward, then we will. We the women will. I shall call upon you my fellow women. We will fight the white men. We will fight until the last of us falls in the battlefield."  Queen Hippolyte had a special piece of armor. It was a leather belt that had been given to her by Ares, the war god, because she was the best warrior of all the Amazons. She wore this belt across her chest and used it to carry her sword and spear. Eurystheus wanted Hippolyte's belt as a present to give to his daughter, and he sent Hercules to bring it back.

Results Diet week # 2-3

Hello,
Last week and this week weren't as good as the first one... But we need to keep focus and not to let ourselves give up because we didn't do great for 2 weeks, right? We are not the type of person who find excuses for themselves to not achieve what they want so: Never give up, never surrender! Next week will be better...

Thinspiration of the moment: Actress Ashley Greene from the saga Twilight as Alice. I don't really what they do to her hair and wardrobe in the movies, but she looks amazing and her body figure is gorgeous:

We are on a good path, I can feel it... We need to keep up the good work, focus on our goals and make it work!
More coming up soon, the sky is our limit - XO, T

Thinspiration of the day: beautiful Jessica Stroup star from 90210. To me she is one of the prettiest of the cast along with Jessica Lowndes. We are not big fans of the show, but it is fun to watch during rainy days... She was chubby before and got really skinny during the first season of the show. Now I think she looks fantastic and healthy with the weight she put on recently. Amazing legs, don't you think ?!

My Silhouette!

We've decided to start the NIVEA My Silhouette! Gel-Cream, starting monday !

Because we love to illustrate with nice pictures, I'll give you these :

The results expected after 4 weeks of use (1 to 2 times application / day): Slimmer looking and noticeably defined silhouette. I can't wait to try it and see the results... They wrote on the box that it was "the highly effective 100% natural Bio-Slim Complex" gel cream. Ingredients to make us be slimmer : white tea and anis extract (doesn't it seems like a beverage to you? LOL).
Does anyone tried that before ? Is it really effective or it's a big scam!?!

More coming up in 4 weeks.... The sky is our limit - XO, T

Week 1 of Diet : Verdict soon !

Hello,
One of our projects is to lose weight. We started to do it seriously last year  but family dramas and non-sense made us stop the diet for a while and unfortunately, we gain back some of the weight lost. So, now we are back on track and ready to lose the weight once and for all, despite what our family says and thinks.
Goals :
  • L => 36 lbs
  • T => 33 lbs
Those are our ultimate goals, you know, the one perfect weight you wish you see on the scale and I am optimistic we can do it this time, if we stay strong, focus, and consistent. We want to attain these goals before our birthday in december.
This has been one of our dreams for 4 years now, since we put on so much weight we don't feel ourselves anymore. When I look in the mirror I feel I am looking at a stranger. Don't misinterpret my words, I don't think I am fat or ugly, I just don't feel like myself and I want to look at me in the mirror and feel my body in line with my spirit. If anyone feel that way or differently, or think I'm crazy, feel free to share...
To help us stay focus, we are going to write "Thinspiration" posts for now on. It is about celebs that lost incredible amount of weight or have a great body figure that inspire us... It's all about being inspired.
Results of our first week tomorrow...

More coming up soon, the sky is our limit - XO,T&L
Thinspiration # 1 : Nicole Richie - I chose her because she was known as the "Paris Hilton's fat crazy BFF", and she decided to change that. Now I think she has a beautiful body, she looks happy and healthy. Moreover, she had her first kid 1 month after mine, that make me even more inspired by her, cause she actually has lost the baby weight...
